Loving the loveless

When you are bombarded daily with negativity and problems and issues and you’re doing your best to make everyone happy, it can be hard to stay positive. I meet negative people all the time. People who haven’t got anything positive to say. People who do nothing but complain about other people and run other people down. People who just can’t or won’t be happy. Shields up. I’m not going to let someone else’s negativity take me over. I have control over that. Their negativity will hit me in the face, but then I let it run off me. I’m not going to absorb it.  Bad moods are contagious and that negative vibe can spread like wildfire, unless you stop it and don’t let it go any further.  How do you do that?

It’s important to listen to people. If they want to be negative you can attempt to put a positive spin on whatever it is, use humour to lighten the mood, or at least allow them to vent and maybe feel better… I guess it really depends on the person and the situation. The point is twofold, don’t allow other people’s negativity to permeate you and, love the loveless.  To quote the Desiderata, ‘listen, even to the dull and the ignorant, for they too have their story.’
